Cremation Options
Direct Cremation With No Services
Direct Cremation is a simple and low-cost cremation option, in which the deceased’s body is cremated right away. It may take place only after obtaining a signed death certificate from the attending physician along with a signed authorization from the next of kin, or authorized agent of the deceased. In the State of Michigan and authorization is also required by the medical examiner. After the cremation, the ashes are picked up or sent to the families, and there is no visitation, viewing, or any other end-of-life ceremonies, making it an easy-to-plan option.
Cremation After Funeral Service and Visitation
Funeral services are a ceremony that serves to celebrate, honor, and remember the life of the deceased. Holding a funeral is a way of offering comfort and peace to the family and friends, providing a communal support system for mourners. For this service, the deceased will be cremated prior to the funeral service. The ashes will be placed in the container of your choice. Then, we will hold a funeral service in honor of your loved one. Funeral services can take place at a funeral home, in a church, or even at your home, and they often include prayer, the singing of hymns, a eulogy, and readings. Typically, the ashes in their desired container are present. Families choose this option if they do not want a viewing of their loved one’s body but still want a traditional funeral service. Whether traditional or unique, the funeral service can be personalized to reflect the individuality of your loved one.
Cremation with Memorial Service
This option includes cremation taking place prior to the service. After cremation has occurred, friends and family can gather at a visitation. The service is a ceremony that serves to celebrate, honor, and remember the life of the deceased. Whether traditional or unique, both the visitation and the funeral service can be personalized to reflect the individuality of your loved one.
Other Options for Cremated Remains
There are also other ways of saying goodbye after cremation. After buying an urn to put the ashes, you can also choose to have a burial in a cemetery or place the ashes in a cemetery columbarium niche. State of Michigan - Cremation Regulation
In the state of Michigan, families must contact a funeral home to start the cremation process. The funeral home makes the transfer of the deceased from the place of death to the funeral home, completes the death certificate and applies for the cremation permit, and transfers the deceased to the crematory. It is not possible in Michigan for families to go directly to a crematory in our state.
