Michael (Mike) Joseph Misslitz, March 4, 1960-February 16, 2021
Mike was born to Bob and Judy Misslitz in Highland Park, MI. He was the oldest brother to Robert (Jeana) Misslitz, Richard Misslitz (Kathy McGuire), and Susan (Don) Guernsey. He graduated from South Lyon High School in 1978, and while in school he enjoyed singing in the church and school choirs and performing in the school’s musicals including the Sound of Music. He performed in the Adrian and U of M Honors choirs, as well as the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp International Choir. He traveled to Scandinavia with Blue Lakes, as well as singing for President Nixon and singing with Pearl Bailey.
He served in the US Army from April 1980-1983, and while in the military spent 18 months in Fulda, Germany where he met Monica Seifert. They were married after returning to the United States, and together they had their son Steven who was born on Mike’s 21st birthday. Soon after they were divorced which allowed Mike to marry the love of his life, Tammy Diefenbach on June 18, 1988.
One of Mike’s greatest pleasures in life was being a father and grandfather. He and Tammy had Marie (Forrest) Wells and Michelle. He was the proud “Grumpa” grandfather of Corbin, Conner, Ben, and Erik. He loved to share pictures and tell stories of their fishing adventures together. He was well known for the bear hugs that he would give those he loved.
He worked in the construction field, running his own business for quite a while. He retired in 2012 due to medical issues and spent his retirement enjoying his grandsons. Mike was a friend to all and loved to talk and reminisce whenever he was given the chance.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Judy, as well as his grandparents, Clifford and Anna Cook. He will be interred at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. Memorial service to be planned at a later date.
